Today I wanted to take a moment to talk specifically to any of you who are currently in college or getting ready to start college about picking and declaring your college major because I know it can be a stressful and nerve racking thing to figure out. Believe me I was right there with you when it came time for me to file my own major declaration forms. I was panicking about whether or not my choice was right, would it help me with what I wanted after graduation, was I good enough at it, did I like it enough; any question you could have I did. But I want you to know you do not need to stress or freak out about picking your major, and in an attempt to try and make you realize you are not alone and it is not worth losing sleep over I wanted to share a few things with you. Did you know that the average college student changes their major something like 5 times? It’s true. So don’t worry if you feel like you have to make the decision quickly because you can always change it if you change your mind or discover that you aren’t on the path that you want to be.
You never know what will interest you, and you need to take some time to explore your options of study. The only way to find out what you want to study is to immerse yourself in classes, and actually take the time to figure out what you want and what interests you, so don’t stress if you don’t know that right away. I know it can feel like you need to have the answer right away, but you don’t. It really isn’t the end of the world to be undecided for a while, and believe me you have plenty of time, plenty of time to decide what is right for you. Now maybe you think you know what you want to study and major in, but not what you want to do after college, and that has you stressing over whether or not your major is right. Not fret, many people don’t end up working in the field they have a degree in, but that doesn’t mean that they don’t use things they learned from that degree. Just take your time to enjoy college, and really find out what you are passionate about because studying what interests you means you will always do better because you are automatically more invested and interested in your studies.
I would love to know what your college major is, or what you are thinking about majoring in. Don’t forget to share this post on social media, and follow my social media accounts.
