Let me start by saying that I lay no claim to the name of this method, I actually found it online, and realized that it was pure genius, but since I found it on Pinterest it didn’t have a link back to the original poster. Nevertheless I have been seeing a lot of people lately just feeling generally low in their mood. I don’t know if it is because summer is drawing to a close, or if it something in the collective energy, but because of this I wanted to take some time today to address it. This STOP Method is perfect for when you are feeling low or just drained in your energy and mood.
Physically and literally stop moving! Stop doing whatever it is you are doing, and freeze in space. Take a step back from what you are doing, stop engaging, and remove yourself from what you are doing.
T> take a breath!
Take a breath or several. Inhale for 5 seconds, pause at the top of your breath, then exhale for 7 seconds. Focus on your breathing, and take as long as you need.
Pay attention to any uneasy feelings in your body. Scan yourself from head to toe for how you are feeling. Observe your heart rate, and any areas of restlessness. What emotions are you feeling? Give them a name. What is going on in your environment? Is it loud or quiet?
P> proceed with purpose
What is it that you need right now? It is rest? Maybe food? What is realistically manageable right now? What is going to serve you right now? Decide what is in your best interest and commit to that.
The whole point of the STOP Method is to help you reassess how you are feeling, change those feelings, and move forward so that the feelings don’t hold you back. If you are feeling low, drained, or overwhelmed I highly encourage you try out these method.
