Setting goals can be hard. We all want to be successful and to accomplish our goals, but the act of actually setting them and ensuring that we achieve them isn’t easy. When thinking about setting goals for yourself I always recommend that people remember the acronym SMART. Setting SMART goals is a method that helps to ensure that not only are the goals you are setting realistic, but also easier to achieve.
Be as specific as possible when you are setting your goals, because the more specific you get the more likely you are to actually accomplish them.
Ensure that your goals are measurable, for example maybe you want to lose 25 pounds. That is a measurable goal.
Make sure that your goal is actually attainable, for example obviously you wanting to be a win million dollar is probably not the most attainable goal.
Similar to attainable, make sure that your goals are realistic, so for instance saying you want to be an astronaut is realistic, but saying you want to be one next year isn’t.
Lastly, try and ensure that your results are time bound being that they have a time frame for instance maybe you want to lose 25 pounds in 6 months. The more specific in time frame the more likely you are to accomplish the goal because it helps to hold you accountable.
I would love to know if you have ever set any SMART goals, and if so what are they.
