Mindset, it’s a term that is thrown around so much, but what does it actually mean. To me mindset is simply your state of mind, headspace, or your frame of reference. Now I am not the kind of person who believes that you can always be in a positive mindset because let’s be honest life is hard, and it is hard to try and be positive all the time, especially when life continuously throws you curve balls and obstacles. I am a firm believer though in establishing a healthy mindset, meaning a balanced mindset. A huge part of maintaining and setting up a healthy mindset is ensuring that you are operating from a place of abundance vs. scarcity. But what does that mean?
A scarcity mindset refers to operating from a place of lack. In simple terms someone who lives their life from a scarcity mindset always believes that there will never be enough of whatever it is they are driving for whether that be money, time, etc. Living with a mindset of lack or scarcity can leave you feeling unfulfilled and like nothing is really possible because you are constantly feeling like there is never enough. Additionally a scarcity mindset often makes people feel like they will never accomplish the things they want to accomplish because they feel there isn’t enough success or enough time or possibilities for it to happen, thus they operate from a place of limits as opposed to growth.
In contrast an abundance mindset means you are operating from a place of prosperity and wealth. People living their lives from a place of abundance believe that there is enough of whatever for everyone, and therefore nothing holding them back from accomplishing their goals. One of the big benefits of operating from this type of mindset is that it enables growth, which is another key tenant to a healthy mindset. Why would you want to be living life in a fixed or stagnant place when you can constantly be growing and becoming better. Additionally because an abundance mindset operates from a place of continuous prosperity it allows those practicing it to approach goals in the long term as opposed to the short term because they never doubt that there will be enough for them to succeed.
One of the key tenants of establishing and maintaining a healthy and balanced mindset or head space is whether or not one is coming from a place of lack or scarcity or from a place of growth or abundance. In order to constantly be growing, becoming better, and living in a way that doesn’t limit us or our goals we have to be continuously striving to live from a place of abundance. Living from this place of abundance means that there is always enough of whatever we need, and that we aren’t limiting ourselves when it comes to the things we want to achieve.
