With what feels like a never-ending news cycle it can be hard to keep up on what is going on in the world and your local community. I think this can be especially hard for young people who are busy doing 10 things at once all the time, so I have compiled my go to guide on how to stay up to date on current events without spending forever reading articles or deciphering what is real or not. In my opinion there are 6 great sources for quick and reliable news updates. Twitter This may seem strange, but Twitter is a great way to get quick news updates because it allows you to follow whatever news outlets you choose and get short bursts of information that are easy to digest. Newsletters Newsletters are a great option for those who are always checking their email. You can opt in to a newsletter signup via any of your favorite news outlets websites, and you will get your instant news update sent right to your inbox. Whether or not we like it it seems that most of the world spends way to much time attached to their cell phones, and if that is you you are in luck because with most smart phones nowadays you can choose which news to receive directly to your phone. For instance if you have an iPhone you can follow whatever new sources you wish from the news app on your phone. Another social media type news resource is Facebook, now before you start freaking out that I am recommending Facebook as a reliable news sources just wait. In terms of Facebook I simply mean the news reel on the side of your profile can provide you with some quick updates about pop culture and the most recent and talked about happenings on the internet (but tread with caution). If you are more of a traditionalist there is always your favorite local news or cable news network, or even the newspaper as means of learning about what is happening around the world. The last option I want to let y’all know about is something called the Skimm. The Skimm is a newsletter of sorts that can be viewed via your email, an app, their website, etc. The company sends out either weekly or daily news updates (depending on your choice) that have been condensed down to the fastest and most important topics of the moment. They even have a 10-minute weekly news update you can listen to while you are getting ready in the morning. They do not sponsor me, but it was recommended to me by a friend, and I do think it sounds super cool.
