I am a huge fan of hunting down lesser known or more underrated beauty product because in my experience sometimes the best products are those hidden gems that have yet to become cult favorites. Lately I have been thinking about some of those lesser known staples in my collection of beauty and wellness type products since realizing that one of my favorite moisturizers is almost never talked about online. So I decided that today would be the perfect time to sit down and share with all of you some of those smaller treasures. Who knows maybe you will find something you like among them, or branch out and try something new the next time you go shopping.
This is by far the best drugstore face powder as far as I am concerned. It is super smooth and finely milled especially for a pressed powder. And as a pale girl their translucent shade is actually something I can get away with wearing. I swear once you put this stuff on it locks in your makeup for days. Ok not really days, but I rarely have to reapply during the day. That’s not to mention the price point this little beauty is less than $6, I mean really you can’t beat that, especially because it lasts forever.
Laura Geller where have you been all my life? I don’t know why I never really paid attention to some of her products but oh my gosh the moment this powder foundation came into my life I swear it was like the heavens opened up and sang my name. I only ended up buying it on a whim one day when it was on sale, and I am so glad I did. It is one of the smoothest, softest powders I have ever used. It glides on the face so beautifully, and has this almost blurring quality. Normally I wear it as a powder to set my liquid products, but sometimes I will wear it as an actual foundation too. I will say it is on the lighter coverage side for a powder foundation, but I don’t necessarily mind that all the time so it works for me. One of my favorite things about it at least my shade (Porcelain) is that it has this blend of pink veining running through it, which works perfectly with the pink and cool undertones in my skin. Most of the time powders tend to lean to the more yellow side, and I have a hard time finding one that works, but this one is magic.
Let me start by saying that I have tried a lot of different types of tweezers because for some reason I always end up with more pairs than I need, but these are by far one of if not the best pair I have ever tried. They have such a small fine point that you can get even the smallest of hairs. Also they come in a kit designed for your eyebrows with another pair of regular tweezers, and angled brush, and a spoolie, which is awesome.
Guys I am just going to put it out there these are the best makeup wipes I have ever tried. That may sound extreme, but of everything I have tried these really are my favorite. They remove every ounce of makeup even if it’s waterproof, and never seem to bother my eyes even when they are feeling sensitive. I have become super loyal to them because every time I buy another type I always regret it, but I don’t see enough people talking about them so I have no problem giving them a shout out.
I feel like Ponds is a brand everyone has heard of, but it doesn’t get nearly enough love. A few months ago I was at the store with my Mom looking for a new moisturizer to help with the Arctic level dry skin that winter had bestowed upon me, but I didn’t want to spend a fortune, and we all know that skin care can be expensive. I was looking at the Ponds section and my Mom made a comment about how my grandmother and great grandmother both used Ponds moisturizers, just different colored containers, so I decided to give it a shot. I mean there’s got to be a reason that the brand has lasted as long as it has, so I went ahead and gave it a shot. Y’all this stuff is so moisturizing. I mean you literally need barely the smallest amount because it is so rich and thick. The only thing I would say is don’t apply too much because you don’t want to end up being greasy which can happen because it is so rich and moisturizing, but if you apply just enough you will be totally fine. Regardless I guess I am now a third generation Ponds lover because I haven’t used anything else for my dry alligator cold weather induced skin.
Clinique eyeliners are actually something I kind of stumbled onto. Years ago the first time I ever got my makeup done at a counter it was with Clinique products, but since using up the ones I bought that day I haven’t used too many more of them. I don’t know why there wasn’t anything wrong with them, I guess I just started branching out and forgot about them. But during my senior year in college I rediscovered Clinique and am so happy that I did. On vacation I stopped in a Sephora and ended up buying one of the Black Honey gift sets they had at the time, which came with a matching eyeliner. Since I hadn’t packed a ton of makeup I went ahead and tried it out, and instantly fell in love. I have since gone and bought several more (I won’t say how many), and am so glad that I did. They are by far some of the creamiest and easiest to apply eyeliners I have ever used, and they are hypoallergenic which means they are great for contact lens wearers and those with allergies or sensitive eyes.
Another one of my eyeliner favorites that I don’t think get nearly enough love are the NYX Slide On Glide On Eyeliners. I own them in more colors than I should probably admit, but they are so good and so affordable. They come in a boatload of colors from your normal black, brown and white to purple, green, and even olive. They are also extremely creamy, easy to apply, and last all day. I mean really once you put those bad boys on they are staying until you want them to come off, which I love because there is nothing worse than raccoon eyes or eyeliner under your eyebrow because it didn’t stay put and smeared everywhere.
Aside from the Ponds moisturizer, the Neutrogena Healthy Defense Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen is my other favorite moisturizer. It is my favorite for the spring and summer especially because it is really moisturizing but not too thick, and has a great SPF. One of the other reasons I love it is because it is just as good on its own as it is under makeup which means I don’t have to worry about it messing up how my makeup looks or having it sweat off because of the moisturizer underneath.
I am just going to be real honest here razors are just too dang expensive. I mean really, why, and women’s are even more expensive. Bic razors on the other hand are super affordable, last forever, and give a close shave without being so sharp that you always knick yourself.
This is hands down one of my go to products. I swear by it, which is funny considering at first I wasn’t sold on it. I use the color Taupe which is a perfect color for probably mid range blondes, light browns, and those that lean a little more strawberry reddish. It is designed to help add volume to your brows too, so if you have brows that are more on the sparse side this will be great for you. I love it too because it stays on for so long, that I don’t have to worry about it rubbing off during the day even if it is hot outside.
I would love to hear from y’all about some of your favorite underrated beauty products, so feel free to comment, email me, or message me on any of my social media accounts.
