If you have been around the blog for a little while then you probably know that I am a big proponent of a budget and saving in general. I just believe that financial independence and responsibility are so important as you get older, and I want to spread that message. So today I wanted to share with y’all my “3” budget rule and let y’all know why you should adopt it, especially if you have a hard time with budgeting, impulse buying, or saving in general.
My “3” budget rule is actually quite simple to follow, and breaks down like this. Anytime you want to buy something (there are obvious exceptions like groceries and things you actually need) you think about it first in 3s, either 3 days, 3 weeks, or 3 months; depending on how expensive the item is. If you think about the product first for that long before buying it it requires you to actually think about whether of not you really want whatever that item is, which helps prevent impulse buying and splurging. Additionally this technique helps you to save for larger purchases because you are giving yourself an extended period of time to save up your finances. It also helps make budgeting easier because you are thinking about things in terms of whether or not you really need it, and whether or not you will still want in in 3 days, 3 weeks, or 3 months.
I know this rule has really helped me (especially at Target haha) tremendously since I came up with it because it gives me something to look forward to as well. If I really like a purse and I wait 3 weeks for it I am going to know for sure that I really want and love that bag, as opposed to splurging or impulse buying it and then realizing a few weeks later that I don’t like it the way that I though I did.
I would love to know if you try out this technique, and how it works for you because I truly do believe in it, and the power it has in helping people save, prevent impulse buying and splurging. If you have any other tips for saving or preventing splurging and impulse buying I would love for you to comment below or message me on social media, as I am always looking for new tips and tricks.
