What is mindset you might be asking? Well fear not I know the work has been thrown around a lot lately, but it is nothing big or scary. Your mindset is simply your headspace, and how you are thinking. Now the key to mindset isn’t to have a positive one all the time, but rather to have a balanced and healthy one. And a key to having a healthy mindset is operating from a place of growth, or a growth mindset, as opposed to a fixed mindset. What this really means is ensuring that you are living your life from a place of prosperity and expansion versus a place of stagnation.
A growth mindset really is all about expansion and constant growth and change, whereas a someone with a fixed mindset lives their life stagnant without positive change. Now you might me wondering ok, but what does that mean and why does it matter to my life. And to put it simply those that live with a growth mindset are setting themselves up for success while those with a fixed mindset are setting themselves up for failure. You see in order to overcome our own limiting beliefs, bad habits, or negative thoughts we have to put ourselves in a place of constant change and growth. A place where those thoughts, bad habits, or limiting beliefs can be overcome or beaten, but that’s not possible with a fixed mindset. The terms growth and fixed mindset were coined by Dr. Carol Dweck, who is a researcher and professor at Stanford University, so she knows a thing or two. According to her research those with a growth mindset actually believed that they could achieve their goals, and were thus more likely to work harder, as opposed to those with a fixed mindset whose attitude reflected more that they couldn’t achieve their goals thus didn’t try and change or work harder.
Having a healthy mindset doesn’t have to be a scary thing, but it can be hard because of all that life throws at us. Having said that one key way to ensure that you are living your life from a healthy headspace is to practice having a growth based mindset as opposed to a fixed or stagnant mindset. A growth mindset allows for change, prosperity, and goal achievement, because the person believes that things are possible and can change, whereas a fixed mindset believes the exact opposite. I would love to know more about your mindset struggles, and whether or not you think you are operating from a place of growth or stagnation.
