The holidays can be an amazing time, but they can also be very difficult, because let’s be honest (especially if you are in your post grad years or your 20s) family and friends often ask you a million questions about you life and what you are doing. And unfortunately some of those people aren’t exactly the most supportive of what you may be doing. Whether you quit that job your parents think is perfect or you are out there chasing after dreams everyone else thinks are wild and crazy, it can be hard to handle. I am no different when it comes to this, I have dealt with it first hand, so I wanted to share with y’all some things I have learned that may help you this holiday season.
Remember that no matter what there will always be haters, naysayers, and non-supportive people no matter what choices you make, so try and ignore them because often their opinions are completely irrelevant to your life.
Use that negativity as fuel to push you even harder and farther into what you want. This is your life, and it is your responsibility to go after it and live it how you see fit.
Now sometime it can be hard to just ignore someone when they are bashing you life choices so now is the time to speak up for yourself. No one is going to be your advocate or cheerleader so go be your own. Tell them that this is your life, and what you want to do, and just go for it.
I hope that these tips help you deal with the unsupportive people you may encounter this holiday season, but I want you to know that I believe in your dreams and am rooting for you to succeed.
