I feel like as women we are going going and going, until unfortunately sometimes we just collapse. I for one know that I am guilty of this, especially running two businesses. I have this limiting belief, yes I still have those too, where if I am not working then I am failing or doing something wrong. Yes, yes, I recognize how twisted that is, and I am working on it everyday now. In fact I have been taking time off recently, and it has been super helpful.
Last week I had a fellow coach and friend essentially tell me that I don’t have to be so strong all the time, and that it is ok for me to not only take breaks and time off, but to let people help me. If you know me I have my own block around letting people in and receiving from them. I am working on it, but blame it on being burned one too many times. But the post on this post is not to talk about how often I have been burned, but rather to serve as a reminder that damn girl, take a break! I had been forcing myself to work everyday from the moment I woke up until when I went to bed, and it was exhausting.
I hadn’t reminded myself that I have permission to do not only my life, but also my business the way that I want it to be. And it wasn’t until I heard my friend say it that I was reminded of that allowance. I know it sounds kind of crazy that you need to remind yourself that you can do something, but trust me unfortunately we often forget that we have the room, allowance, permission, whatever you want to call it, to do things the way that work for us.
Because of this I have decided to take more frequent breaks in my life. To actually have fun. To stop working when I want to just relax and spend time with the people I love. The simple fact is that we aren’t building resumes we are building lives, and it is ok to take breaks. It is ok, and in fact good for us to take moments just to ourselves, moment with the people we love, and moments to just be. So today and this week I encourage you to just take a break, and remind yourself that you get to do this thing called life the way that you want, and if that means taking time off, then damn girl take a break!
