Okay lovelies let’s be honest with each other for a minute, any of us who have ever had a commute to work know how boring and obnoxious they can be. I mean come one, especially if you have a long commute, sitting in your car just wishing you were any place else takes a toll on you. It is especially hard when it is at the start of your day, when all you want is something to keep you awake and pumped up ready for the day. That’s why I am sharing five of my top tips for making your commute (even if it isn’t to work maybe it’s to school) more bearable, productive, and just overall better.
Guys if you haven’t discovered the wonderful world of Podcasts then I highly suggest you go ahead and check them out on iTunes. There is literally something for everyone from podcasts about crime mysteries to business and life advice. One of the reasons they are so great to listen to during your commute is because you can actually get something out of them, which already puts you on the right track for the rest of the day because you are already being productive, learning something new, or just being entertained and put in a good mood. And like I said because there are so many different topics, and they are free, you could pick something new everyday. Maybe you like to start your day with a news podcast, but end your day with something that will make you laugh; that is totally possible.
Playlists are a complete and total lifesaver for me. No matter what the situation I am a firm believer that a great playlist can help you get through it, even just a little bit. That is one of the reasons I love them so much for commuting because they can get you pumped up for the day and put in a good mindset before your work or school day. Also who doesn’t love a morning dance party, I mean come on.
In today’s day and age everyone is so busy that a lot of people don’t get to read like they wish they could, but that is where audiobooks come into play. Listening to an audiobook on your way to work or school or wherever gives you a great way to absorbs books without having to set aside time to sit down and read or carry around books all day. Don’t get me wrong I love the feel and smell of a good book (yes I am one of those people), but there is something nice about popping on your favorite book of the moment and kind of zoning out to it. I think being able to spend your commute doing something that you like, and want to do for yourself, like reading is a great way to start your day and give back to yourself a bit.
Now this one may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but I think that radio shows can be a great option for some people. If you are the kind of person that would rather hear the news, stories, or updates in the morning then listening to a radio show may be a better option for you. They are a great way to get filled in on what is going on in the world quickly and in a condensed and often more entertaining manner.
This one may seem weird, but another great way to better your commute is to have a partner or someone to carpool with. Having someone to drive or ride with gives you someone to talk to, which can help you set the tone for the rest of the day. Also if you are someone who tends to be grumpier in the morning, especially the first person you see, maybe it’s better if that person isn’t your boss haha. No, but in all seriousness commuting with someone can help keep you awake and is a great way to feed some of your social needs, which are an important aspect of self care.
