As we get closer to the end of the school year many of us will begin receiving graduation announcements from those graduation high school and college, and graduations mean graduation gifts. For those out there who want to get something a little more personal than money (not that there is anything wrong with that believe me any grad appreciates money) I have compiled a list of 10 of the best gifts for those heading into their next chapter.
Portfolios are always a great idea especially for those graduating from college because it automatically gives them something to bring to job interviews and makes them look more professional.
Similar to the portfolio this is a great option for college seniors who will be heading out into the work force, but it can also be a great gift for those entering college, but don’t want to carry around a book bag.
A t-shirt quilt is a great idea for the more sentimental grad in your life. By taking some of their favorite t-shirts from their school years and putting them together in a quilt (or having someone else make it) can allow your grad to keep their memories without the bulk. They are also a great little piece of home for those either moving away for college or moving out after college.
This option is a great idea for the grad who loves taking pictures, posting on Instagram, or likes to document everything. A collage is a great way to show off all of their photos and memories, and is gives them a unique way to decorate their new dorm room or apartment.
Now I know I said this list was for those who don’t want to give money as a gift, but if I am being honest there isn’t a single graduate who doesn’t love getting money. Whether they are starting college or going out into the world they are most likely strapped for cash, and would very openly accept money. But, if you are looking for a more unique way to gift the money check out Pinterest for some creative money gifting ideas.
This may seem like a strange gift, but there are so many options for commemorative ornaments. I especially love this idea for those graduating college because having an ornament of your alma mater’s crest or emblem or even a picture of themselves can be a really special thing to have as a new alumnae. But you could also give a high school graduate an ornament of their graduation year or of the school they plan to attend.
Framed diploma and cap and gown
This is another great option for both those graduating high school and college because something as exciting and special as earning a degree should always be celebrated. Something like a shadow box or larger picture frame make great ways to display the achievements of your grad.
Tech gear is a pretty broad category, but it is one that can apply to multiple ages. Depending on your budget some options could include a new laptop, a camera, or even something less glamorous like an external hard drive (believe me in college you will want one).
Graduation trips are one of those things that tend to be more expensive so if this is something you are thinking about maybe go in and split the cost of the trip with a few other people. Believe me the graduate will be no less appreciative, even if it is a simple long weekend at the beach. Another option is luggage or travel gear. This is an especially great option for graduates because those moving into the “real world” will most likely start to travel more, and those going into college will probably be traveling back and forth from home and school with more stuff that they realize. I know when I graduated college one of the most unexpected and heartfelt gifts I got was a L.L. Bean monogrammed duffel bag, and I swear I take that thing everywhere. It was something I never thought about, but now that I have it boy has it been useful.
The last recommendation I would say is to consider jewelry or some kind of family heirloom. Now of course this depends on whether or not this is even an option for you, but there are a lot of great options across price points for something like this. As for the heirloom, maybe there is a watch, or a ring, or even a vintage legacy sweater that they would love you receive. The options are endless.
